IEC Position Statements

As the global voice of the egg industry, the IEC has the responsibility to discuss industry issues as well to maintain links with other international organisations. The IEC is able to act as a communication link between industry and international regulators / decision makers, and therefore takes positions on a range of issues, once agreed by IEC members and approved by the IEC Council.

Egg Production and Animal Welfare - A Farmer's View

Egg Producers are the people who look after their animals. Only a few of the people who talk about animal welfare have the actual responsibility of caring for livestock on a day to day basis. The IEC supports high standards of welfare for laying hens in all systems, which is why it has developed "The IEC Standard for the Welfare of Laying Hens" (based on science and supported by internationally recognised scientists).

 

IEC Egg Production Statement

The IEC is committed to supporting the egg industry internationally. Working together we promote eggs and their health benefits across the world. Specific issues and consumer demands vary from country to country, and regardless of the method of farming used, or the individual country's preferred production system, as an industry we care. During the IEC Canada 2009 Conference, IEC committee members agreed a new IEC Statement:

 

IEC 'Feeding the Hungry' Statement

Peoples around the globe need a safe, plentiful and inexpensive food supply, to provide a balanced diet, essential for sustained human health. In many developing and under-developed countries people have access to starch and high energy foods, but do not have access to an adequate supply of high quality complete protein.
