Chairman’s Welcome Reception

IEC Chairman invited delegates to join him for a Welcome Reception held in the elegant setting of the Hotel Adlon Kempinski.

Monday 21 September 2015

Spouse Programme: Historical City Tour and lunch at the Reichstag Building

Spouses of delegates set off from the hotel by bus on a short historical tour to learn a little more about the rich history of the city and to orientate them with the main sites of interest.

Following that they had an unique experience to visit and have lunch at the German Parliament building.

Before lunch spouses were able to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the city from the glass dome.

The German Bundestag is the only parliamentary building in the entire world that has a restaurant open to the public. It also enjoys a truly unique location on the rooftop of the historic Reichstag building. Modern German cuisine with fresh, regional products were enjoyed, all with a fantastic view!

Gala Dinner at the German Historical Museum

Our Gala Dinner was held in the beautiful setting of the German Historical Museum.

We began with a drinks reception on arrival in the vaulted entrance hall before moving through to the grandeur of the glass roofed Schlüterhof courtyard for dinner.

The 300-year-old Zeughaus building which houses the German Historical Museum is the most important Baroque building in Berlin and the oldest on Unter den Linden.

The impressive Schlüterhof or ‘central courtyard’ of the Zeughaus, where the Gala dinner took place, originally served as a parade yard for the presentation of ordnance and was perfectly suited to host our prestigious Gala event. The courtyard is named after the sculptor and architect Andreas Schlüter who participated in the construction of the Baroque Zeughaus.

Spouse Programme: Sanssouci Palace and lunch

Spouses travelled to Potsdam to explore Sanssouci the former summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. Taking its name from the French ‘sans souci’ meaning ‘carefree’ or ‘without worries’ the palace and its grounds are certainly a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.

Lunch was enjoyed at the Drachenhaus Restaurant followed by a guided tour of the opulent interior of the palace and the stunning gardens.

All Delegates’ Networking Afternoon

A late summer lunch by the lake.

The networking afternoon took delegates out of the city to relax in the countryside surroundings of the Fischerhutte located in the wild forests of Schlachtensee. After a leisurely lunch overlooking the water, delegates were encouraged to take time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings with a glass of wine and time to chat with colleagues and friends.

Coaches returned to Berlin around mid afternoon after which delegates were free to explore the city or spend time at leisure.
