Getting to the hotel
The closest airports are Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM) and Schiphol Airport (AMS) in Amsterdam.
Rotterdam The Hague Airport is located 9.5km from the hotel, which is approximately 18 minutes by car or 35 minutes by bus and metro.
Schiphol Airport Amsterdam is located 61km from the hotel, which is approximately 50 minutes by car, with a taxi costing around EUR 40 one way. Trains for Schiphol Airport to Rotterdam Central Station take around 35 minutes and cost EUR 15 one way. A tram or taxi would then be needed to reach the hotel (approx. 13 minutes).

Visas, passports and other documents
A passport valid for at least 3 months after the envisaged departure date is required for travel to The Netherlands.
Foreign visitors from most IEC countries can enter the Netherlands without a visa for up to 90 days. However, you should check the Dutch government website before you travel for the most recent information relating to your country.
The currency throughout the Netherlands, including in Rotterdam, is the Euro.
Throughout September, average lows of 11°c and highs of 18°c can be expected.
September in Rotterdam is the autumn season and rain is not uncommon; therefore layers, jackets and umbrellas are advised.
For IEC conferences, including the drinks receptions on Sunday and Monday evening, we suggest business-casual dress.
During Wednesday’s afternoon Harbour Cruise and Closing Party smart-casual dress is recommended, with a coat advised for the cruise.
It is recommended that participants on the companion tour wear footwear which is suitable for moderate walking.
Safety and Emergency Contacts
Rotterdam is generally a safe city to travel to. However, as in all cities you should never let your guard down and leave expensive items unattended, as pick pockets may take advantage in airports, public transport and tourist sites.

In the Netherlands, the standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
There are two associated plug types, type C and F.
Tipping in the Netherlands is considered more of a gesture, and less of an obligation. If you receive very good service, you are welcome to reward it with a tip of around 10%, but it is not expected.
Service charges in restaurants are rare but if they do add a service charge, there is absolutely no need to tip.
COVID-19 travel regulations
At the time of registration launch, most COVID-19 measures have been removed from the Netherlands. However, Delegates are responsible for checking all applicable COVID rules and requirements before travelling.

For COVID-19 testing before travelling home, the nearest test centre is Rotterdam Centraal – Hoevestraat, only a 13 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the conference hotel. Please note, tests must be booked in advance.
The IEC will be adhering to all destination COVID regulations at the time of the event.
