World Environment Day 2024: How eggs can support a happier earth

29 May 2024

When it comes to natural sources of top nutrition – eggs are the answer!

But did you know that they also support planetary health? Here’s how…

1. Small environmental footprint, big nutritional impact!

When compared to other animal protein sources, eggs need less water, land and carbon to be produced, per 100g of protein!1 Not only that, but eggs contain a broad range of nutrients. Research also shows that egg production generates fewer greenhouse gas emissions than other popular protein sources.2

A recent study has shown that adults should consume an egg a day in order to receive adequate micronutrients while enjoying a diet that is sustainable for our earth.3 Making sure you incorporate eggs into your diet supports your health and our planet’s health too!

2. Eggs can be produced anytime, anywhere!

Hens lay eggs throughout the year, all over the world.4 Being widely and consistently available reduces the need for long-distance transport and supports sustainable local agriculture. Eating local, seasonal food benefits the environment and strengthens community-based farming.5

3. Advancing sustainable production

Farmers worldwide are adopting eco-friendly methods to produce eggs. Innovations include circular farming, where waste is converted into energy, the use of renewable energy sources, and carbon neutral eggs.6,7,8 These advancements allow the environmental credentials of egg production to continuously improve.

Choose eggs for a happy earth

Alongside their outstanding nutritional value, eggs have a low environmental impact making them the perfect partner for affordable, healthy and sustainable diets. Add eggs to your diet this World Environment Day for a healthier future for both people and planet!
